Reiki Rescue-Anxiety, Fear and Panic

This method is very good for calming the mind and body. You will be surprised how soothing it is to place your hands on your own head. When we become fearful, anxious or panicky, placing one hand on the forehead and the other on the back of the head right on that ridge or occipital ridge
can really take that stressful edge off and send relaxing waves of comfort through the mind and body.

When we get anxious, fearful, rushed we go into a stress response commonly referred to as fight or flight. Our body prepares fror a reaction and our precious functions like digestion, immune system, and even clear thinking goes to the waste side. Blood rushes to our limbs for running and to our muscles for fighting. Placing your hands this way brings the blood back into the cortex so you can think more clearly and also resets the reaction to a relaxation response where your body functions and brain and emotions can return to balance.

While in this position relax your shoulders and take a few deep breaths. Also placing your awareness on the where the hands are touching helps you go within to ground you and give you peace. It is a mind body connection. The attention we have been giving to situations that trigger anxiety or stress will melt away giving your mind time to disconnect and begin the relaxation response. Enjoy the relief you are experiencing.  If holding your arms up is uncomfortable you can place your arms on your lap to do this hold. Use a pillow on your lap or a table to make it comfortable for you.

When you feel relaxed let go and feel the relief and peace. Relax slowly, one at a time; your face, jaw, tongue,  shoulders,  chest,  belly,  hips, legs, ankles and feet. Feel your feet on the floor beneath you. Enjoy the sensations of relief and calm.

This is wonderful self care and may also be shared with clients, family or friends.

To treat another person, have the person you are assisting sit in a chair. Stand on the right or left side of the person, place one hand lightly on their forehead and the other hand lightly on the back of the head. Be sure to become relaxed while you are assisting others. Soft hands, relaxed shoulders, calm mind will enhance the whole experience by creating an atmosphere of peace and relaxation. Doing this exercise before treating others is very beneficial for both you and the other person.

Non-Traditional Self Reiki-Other Hand Positions

Reiki self-care on shoulder joint and solar plexus.

The great spiritual teacher, Lazarus, said that a great healer was one who got really ill and healed him or her self.

Reiki is a wonderful technique to carry along in your Well-Being Toolbox. It is easy to use and does not require anything but your comforting hands. For traditional Reiki hand positions please see my Self Treatment Page with video.

Reiki is so easy to use.  I practice Reiki right before I go to sleep at night and when I awaken in the morning. I use a pillow to support my arms. Placing my hands on my heart, solar plexus or lower abdomen or hips is very easy. I can feel the warmth and relief and relaxation flow through me. Reiki self-care can help me have a peaceful sleep as well as make my day more relaxed and easy going.

You can prepare by using your Reiki symbols (optional) Lie down and place your hands on your body. You can use traditional hand positions or non-traditional hand placements. While you feel the touch of your hands on the body also become conscious of your breath and observe it flowing in and out for awhile. Enjoy how your body feels more relaxed. The act of placing your hands on your body and following your breath has brought you inward where all the outer influences have quieted down. Letting go of your day and going inward is so relaxing and peaceful. It also allows your mind and body to repair, release and rejuvenate.

Here are some Non-traditional hand positions:

Reiki self care is very soothing. Hand on hip and knee.

Insomnia is so frustrating and depletes us mentally, physically and emotionally. Sleep regenerates neurons* that enable the brain to function at it's best.  We mustn't mess with our neurons so I use Reiki to ease and relax my  mind. I lie on my side and place either hand (which ever is easiest) over my forehead.  My palm is on my third eye and my fingers drape gently over the top of my head. You will find this position to be very soothing. Allow your mind to latch onto that initial comforting sensation, With this sort of mind body practice and disengaging from tension you may find this a great relief and fall gently asleep. One can use a pillow to prop up the elbow if needed for comfort.

Reiki puts me right to sleep.
It feels so soothing.

40% of Americans are afflicted with insomnia due to daily stress.

FYI : Oddly enough the third eye has been believed by ancient man as having an energetic connection to the pineal gland in the brain. The pineal gland secrets melatonin and influences our sleep-wake cycles.

* Neurons are nerve cells which are electrically excitable and processes and transmits information by electrical and chemical signaling.
