Reiki for My Llama, Lakota

Did you ever wonder how Reiki can help your pets or loved ones?

With daily practice we learn how to relax and become mindful. Through entrainment we affect our environment in a positive way and assist or facilitate balance through peace of mind and body. This is basically what the practice of Reiki is.

Here is an example of how I applied my Reiki  to help my llama and I accomplish a peaceful and successful outcome during hand shearing.

I had the right frame of mind from the start by wearing my Flow Like a River T-Shirt that I made to remind me of the benefit of calm.

Lakota was full of extra long fiber, about 8 ". It was time to shear him. We haltered him,
and lead him to the chute for shearing.  I safely tied Lakota to the fence with a release knot and pulled the chute along his side to hold him in place. I began to brush him and he was quite nervous and jerked his body to avoid my approach. He was rearing and making sounds of impatience. He was also giving me "the eye". I could not risk using sharp shears on a moving target. I asked my husband to go get my camera to record the results.

I began to practice my Reiki principles to calm myself. I repeated these silently until I felt peace.

 Just for today:
  •  I will not anger
  • I will not worry
  • I will do my work with appreciation
  • I will honor my teachers
  • I will be kind to every human and every living thing.
Giving thought to these principles reminds me that just for one day I can let go of fear and worry. I then immediately feel a pleasant drop down into my heart which is very calming.  It is a wonderful feeling of connection. Then something very special happens. The animals usually responds with a relaxed comfort as well. This is Reiki. This teaches us how, through entrainment, we can positively effect how we can transform our environment.

Succes !

Lakota is standing still and at ease after a short while and I begin to shear with my scissors. The mood of Reiki practice radiates peacefully from me and Lakota and out into the world. This feeling is accumulative and increases in benefits over time. This is very much like being with someone who is relaxed and a pleasure to be around. You just feel good in their presence. This is a very healing atmosphere.

Lakota and I are calm and Reiki relaxed.

Before shearing, Lakota's eyes were as big as saucers straining to look behind him to see what I was doing. He was very irritated. But now he has relaxed so much he looked like he was going to doze off Zzz.

Reiki offers guidelines for self treatment and guidelines for helping others.  you can treat yourself or others with a level 1 class. The most mysterious aspect of Reiki for me is the fact that we do not heal others. Each individuals body and mind has the intelligence to heal.  Reiki teaches how we let go and have faith in the process. We learn to let go and accept the situation as it is. We see the perfection of the body and mind's ability to balance itself once it relaxes and transforms the tension. We, through our practice, have learned to relax. That relaxed state is felt by our environment.

To assist with animals, I stand or sit near or away from the animal which ever is best for the situation. Remote sessions are also possible because in Reiki Level 2 we learn there is no time and space. We say we send Reiki but this is not really true. We do give the gift of this practice through practicing it ourselves. With the situation in mind, we become peaceful, clear, and free of worry or stress. We then let go and become an open channel for healing which connects us to our higher self. This peace transfers spontaneously anywhere we intend it whether we are there in person or in another country, city, or state.
